NBA News: First-time All-Stars by position

Basketball, NBA News

There are always first timers in the All-Star Game, but it’s not always easy identifying them. Some of them will get to be an All-Star just one time because of their breakout season while some of them will be enjoying further appearances. However, it’s not very easy to predict who are the players that will be selected in the All-Star team for their first time. Nevertheless, we will try and predict the new guy from every position.

Point Guard

Kyle Lowry is having a terrific season and it will be a shame if he’s not picked up to participate in the 2015 All-Star Game in New York. He is just one of the four players around the league that is averaging at least 19 points, 7 assists, 4 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game. The other three are LeBron James, Stephen Curry and Russell Westbrook, all of whom are locked in to participate. Lowry wasn’t picked last season, even though he was one of the best point-guards in the East, but this year he looks like he will be lacing up for the All-Star Game.

Shooting Guard

Nobody can deny the improvement of Klay Thompson and how much he has grown this season. Furthermore, he is playing on the best team in the NBA and he’s more than just contributing. Thompson has been playing like an All-Star through the whole season and it will be an enormous surprise if he is not taking part in the All- Star Game.

Small Forward

Jimmy Butler is a guy that will be getting a lot of appraisal this season for sure. He looks like the favorite to win the Most Improved Player of the Year award and it will be hard for him not to be included on the roster for the All-Star Game. Butler has been having a major breakout year and everybody has seen it. He has become maybe the biggest offensive weapon of the Chicago Bulls and no one can deny he has become a superstar this season.

Power Forward

It’s not going to be very easy for anyone to beat Blake Griffin, Anthony Davis (starter), LaMarcus Aldridge, Dirk Nowitzki and Tim Duncan, who are definitely the favorites to get into the game, but if there is one power-forward that could do it, it would be Serge Ibaka. The OKC Thunder player hasn’t yet participated in an All Star Game and it’s hard to believe that this will be his year, however there is still hope. He’s been great on defense and has developed his offense even more this season.

Center

If it’s not DeMarcus Cousins, I don’t know how it should be. The Sacramento Kings big man is looking like a beast this season, a very matured beast that has become a leader. “To be totally honest, it is what it is,” Cousins said of making an All-Star appearance. “If I make it, I make it. If I don’t, I don’t.” However, if he doesn’t get picked, he will be one of the biggest snubs in the NBA history of All-Star Games.
