Chelsea vs Liverpool: Preview, Team news, Stats

Capital One Cup Match Preview:

Coming into this match last week on a 4 match winning streak, Chelsea were in for a hiding as the Reds utilized their home advantage to full. Having secured 6 times the shots on target then Chelsea managed, Brendan Rodgers’ men took the reigning Premier League leaders by storm a week ago.

However, even though Chelsea didn’t performed that well on that particular day, the way non-League side stunned them stunned them at home soil has left Jose Mourinho in a predicament. Being out of the FA Cup already with an in-form Liverpool to face in Capital One Cup, last two weeks have definitely gone against the plan of the Portuguese.

Thus, when his former disciple Brendan Rodgers will meet him on Tuesday night, Jose Mourinho would be hoping to keep his unbeaten record against the Northern Irishman intact. However, looking at their recent form against Chelsea, Liverpool – despite – all their recent good form will travel to Stamford Bridge as underdogs

Team news

Coming into this match on the back of a 10 match un-beaten run, Brendan Rodgers’ men will travel to Stamford Bridge on the back of a week which has handed them several boosts on the injury front.

Having seen both Glen Johnson and Joe Allen return to the starting lineup in their match against Bolton, Liverpool might well welcome Daniel Sturridge on the bench against his former team on Tuesday.

Thus, for a team that has lifted the burden of huge amount of injuries this season, lack of injuries could well hand Brendan Rodgers his strongest team to choose from against Chelsea.

However, even if both Mario Balotelli and Daniel Sturridge are in contention to make a return, Liverpool are expected to field the same team which they played against Chelsea last week.

Chelsea

Talking about Chelsea and looking at their sidelined players, the reigning Premier League leaders have been one of the least scathed team in the Premier League this season and today’s match is nothing different.

Even though Chelsea were in for a nightmare when non-league side Brighton paid them a visit, Jose Mourinho will enshrine his muscle by naming a strong lineup on Tuesday.

Apart from John Obi Mikel who has been sidelined for an indefinite amount of time, no other Chelsea player is expected to be left out of this match because of injury.

Talking about Andre Schurrle and even though the World Cup winner hasn’t been in the good books of his manager this season, the German is expected to start the match from bench.
