WHC Group D and C: France beat Sweden for first place in Group C, Argentina kick out Russia in Group D

World Handball Championship:


 Group C:

Egypt – Iceland 25-28 (10-15)

Egypt better open the game and in 10’ they manage to have 4-1 lead. But until 15’ Island manage to get back into the game, in period from 10’ to 22’ Egypt scored only two goals while Iceland scored 9 and get them 4 goals ahead. Until the halftime they extend their lead to five goals with late goal from Jonsson in 30’.  Second half started goal by goal until 41’, at this point Egypt was at -5 but they start to drop that goal difference. Closest to a draw Egypt was in 52’ (23-24) but then Iceland wake up and wins with 28-25.


Algeria – Czech Republic 20-36 (10-21)

Before this game Czech still had a small chance to see next round, but with Iceland win they lost all chances. Algeria as the weakest team didn’t have any real chance in this game. Czech quickly takes the lead and in 9’ it was already +3. Until 17’ Czech couldn’t make any bigger goal difference but then in only seven minutes they score seven goals and went to +9. Until the halftime they manage to extend their lead to +11. In second half Czech even more extend their lead and at the end it was huge 36-20.


France – Sweden 27-25 (11-12)

in a battle for first place France manage to beat Sweden in last five minutes of the game. Sweden was a better team during most part of the game, they start strong and already in 7’ they got 4-0. But France manages to get back and in 12’ it was already 4-4. In 18’ Sweden manages to get them another four goals lead, but until the halftime that goal difference drop to only +1. In second half it was goal by goal and Sweden couldn’t extend their goal lead. France manages to get a draw in 54’ and two minutes later they take the lead, at that point Sweden lost their concentration. With only four minutes to go and with disoriented Sweden team, that was enough for France to take win and first place in this group.


Group D:


  1. [Q] Germany 4-1-0 +26

  2. [Q] Denmark 3-2-0 +27

  3. [Q] Poland 3-0-2 +14

  4. [Q] Argentina 2-1-2 +9

  5. Russia 1-0-4 +2

  6. Saudi Arabia 0-0-5 -78

Saudi Arabia – Germany 19-36 (8-18)

In-game were first team played last team in group, Germany didn’t have any big problems against Saudi Arabia. From the start Germany took the lead and until the halftime it was already +10 for them. Second half was similar to first Germany looked strong and Saudi Arabia couldn’t threat them. At the end Germany win and take the first place with huge +17.


Russia – Argentina 27-30 (16-17)

in the battle for last place that lead in second round Argentina was better than Russia and kicked them out of second round. Argentina took the lead and in 7’ they got +3 (5-2) but their lead last for only three minutes. In 10’ Russia first manage to get a draw (5-5) and then they took the lead. Until the halftime Argentina manages to get back and to take the lead in 22’. In second half it was goal by goal, Argentina manage to secure win in only three minutes. From 46’ to 49’ they score four goals for +4, Russia quickly replay with two goals but until the end they couldn’t in dangerous Argentina win anymore.


Denmark – Poland 31-27 (16-12)

Denmark and Poland played for second place in Group D. Denmark had better start and grab them a small lead in 10’, but until 16’ Poland manage to draw the result. But soon after that Denmark manage to get them four goals difference and until the halftime they didn’t allow Poland to get close. In second half Denmark keep the four goal difference, during one period in second half they even had six goals difference. Poland couldn’t come close and Denmark took the win and second place in Group D.
