Van Gaal eyeing free move for Dutch midfielder

English Premier League News:

Although the 20-time Premier League Champions failed to add to their midfield ranks in the January transfer window, Manchester United are now eyeing a free transfer to solve the void that might be left with the departure of Darren Fletcher to Premier League side West Brom

And en-route to the other midfield signings that Van Gaal has made during his short era at the Old Trafford, the Dutchman is again going for experience to bolster his team’s midfield for next season.

Currently playing for the Italian side AC Milan, Manchester United are eyeing former Manchester City midfielder Nigel de Jong on a free transfer window later this year, in the summer transfer window.

Although Manchester United were looking to add Kevin Strootman to their ranks in January, another injury setback to the Dutch midfielder has forced Van Gaal to revise his interest in the Roma man.

The transfer of De Jong from blue to red half of Manchester wouldn’t be as celebrated as was the transfer of Carlos Tevez in the opposite direction. However, it would certainly make a positive impact on the Manchester United midfield that has suffered a lot of injuries this season.

While Manchester United acquired Fellaini last season and Delay Blind before the start of this one, both of them have been out for long terms this season. Thus, although both of them are in full match fitness currently, Louis Van Gaal is looking to increase his options if/when anything goes wrong with any of his 1st choice midfielder.

At 30 years of age and currently seeing out the last 6 months of his contract with the 4 time European Champions AC Milan, De Jong would be a welcomed back in the Premier League.

While Manchester United spent 150-million in summer transfer window, January transfer window failed to replicate the fireworks that were associated with Manchester United in summer.

However, much to the un-amusement of Manchester United fans, this transfer is expected to take place in summer as De Jong – as indicated above – is still tied with his contract at the San Siro.
