Sitting at the top of Premier League table and having booked their place in the final of Capital One Cup, Chelsea are the only English team in Europe that is posing a serious threat to its opponents.
With a game against PSG awaiting them in Champions League pre quarters, Jose Mourinho’s men have every reason to believe that they can land a triple winning season this time out.
However, according to their defensive midfielder Nemanja Matic, Premier League is the top of the list when it comes to acquiring trophies for Chelsea this season. And if they manage to beat Everton on Wednesday, only an un-foreseen catastrophe can stop him and his team-mates from acquiring their goal.
Although Jose Mourinho arrived at Chelsea in the summer of 2013/14, his first season of re-union wasn’t celebrated as Chelsea finished last season trophy less.
Finishing at 3rd in the Premier League table behind Champions Manchester City and runners up Liverpool, Mourinho demanded a strong response from his players.
In order to fulfil his dream of a Premier League title, Mourinho went with vengeance in the summer transfer window and acquired players like Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas, While the former is the Premier league top goal-scorer while the latter is the top assist leader, all the signings made by the Portuguese have come good for Chelsea this season.
In his latest interview given to THE STANDARD, Matic has hailed the importance of winning Premier League title this season.
“We still have three competitions to go for but to be honest the most crucial is the Premier League because for our club, for our supporters, the title is the most important,” Matic told The Standard.
“We will try to win that and then see what happens with the Champions League and the cup final against Tottenham, which is going to be an interesting and tough battle.”
Matic, who was acquired from Benifica last January, has also progressed leaps and bounds this season. Been honored with the Serbian Player of the Year award in 2014, Matic has been described as the most improved player in Europe’s top 5 Leagues this season.
