Even though the January Transfer Window is now over, the rumors about transfers haven’t stopped. The latest thing in soccer is that Barcelona has made Manchester United’s Juan Mata their primary target for 2016. The Spaniard is regularly linked to transfer rumors, because of the fact that he’s not being chosen by Louis van Gaal to play regularly.
“Despite admitting that the prospective move would not be easy, Mata’s versatility as a player – his ability to play in midfield, in attack and out wide – his style of play and the suggestion he isn’t part of Louis van Gaal’s long-term plans have made Barcelona keen on the Spain international. It is claimed that Barca have been interested in luring Mata back to La Liga in the past, but it remains to be seen whether the Catalan giants would be able to make a move for Mata with their current transfer ban in place.”
Mata will be a very good fit for Barcelona, as he is a very versatile, offensively minded player. The Spaniard hasn’t been a leading figure in Manchester United, failing to succeed under Van Gaal or Moyes. However, in Barcelona it will be very likely that he will be given a bigger role. Xavi and Andres Iniesta are nearing retirement and somebody will have to fill their shoes after they are gone. Mata is a very flexible player that also has the experience to play in Barcelona.
Even though it’s a bit too early to talk about what is going to happen in 2016, it’s still very interesting to see what the clubs are trying to do. If Barcelona really are targeting Juan Mata that means that they will be trying to continue playing with their current style. For Manchester United, Mata’s move won’t be a big loss, as he hasn’t really been a very important figure in the club since his arrival.
