The Phoenix Suns are in the middle of a very tricky situation, as they have to choose on which player to rely more – Isaiah Thomas or Goran Dragic. Both guards have been mentioned a lot of times in possible trade situations, but there still isn’t a clear picture which one is going to stay at Phoenix and who isn’t. Previously it was reported be sources around the league that Isaiah Thomas is more likely to be traded than Goran Dragic. However, some recent comments by the Slovenian point-guard may change the initial scenery.
Goran Dragic’s contract with the Suns ends this summer, which will make him a free-agent then. Initially, it was thought that Phoenix will try to keep him and make an attempt to re-sign him in the offseason, however it looks like the situation may change. Dragic has publicly announced that he doesn’t wish to re-sign with the Suns and would like to be traded. “I don’t feel comfortable with my situation,” he said, adding, “It’s just different. Standing in the corner, it’s not my game. I see that we’re not going the right direction. That’s why I take action and try to put myself in a better position.”
Furthermore, it looks like Dragic wouldn’t like staying with the Suns even if they the team would trade Thomas before the deadline. It looks like Dragic would finally like to be able to run his own team. Phoenix even signed Goran’s younger brother, Zoran, in the offseason in an attempt to keep Goran happy, however it seems the plan hasn’t worked well.
There have been a number of teams that have shown interested in Dragic – the Sacramento Kings, Boston Celtics, Houston Rockets, Los Angeles Lakers and the Miami Heat. Furthermore, it will be very interesting to see what the Suns are going to receive in return for Dragic if a deal is being reached. Phoenix is a team in playoff contention and they surely wouldn’t be satisfied with just a draft pick. The trade deadline is just a day away, so stay tuned to see if the Slovenian point-guard is going to have a new team this season.
