Premier League sign a TV contract with Sky and BT Sport for stunning 5.14 billion pounds

Soccer News:

Premier League is one more league that will get most money out of TV rights. Premier league made a deal with TV houses Sky and BT Sport about showing their games on TV in total value of 5.14 billion pounds. Contract should give exclusive rights to Sky and BT Sport on Premiership from season 2016/2017 until season 2018/2019.

If we look at the history than the figures are astronomical. In the period from 1992 – 1997 BSkyB paid “only” 191 million pounds for 5 years. If we divide that money for each year that give us around 38.2 million pounds per year, for this new contract Premiership will get 1.71 billion pounds per year. That is increase of more than 400% in 20 years. If we compare only the last two contracts than Premiership is richer for about 2 billion pounds. If we take a look at raw figures then Sky will pay 10.2 million pounds for each of 126 games in season 2015/2017 until 2018/2019. Why did Sky and BT Sport give such huge money? The main reason probably lies in prestige for contract, Sky and BT Sports battle with Discovery and Qatar BeIN Sport channel. We can only imagine what did they offer but they probably didn’t offer much less. Also Premier League games are one of most important sport events in United Kingdom. With this new contract Premiership clubs will profit a lot and that might means that we will see new stars coming in Premier League. Arsenal manager Arsen Wenger probably the best explained this situation, Wenger said that England clubs will have financial advantage over the rest of Europe (and World) and because of that best players will come to play in England. He said that moving majority of players depends on the financial power . At the end Wenger said that when he was coach for Monaco (1987-1994) they would buy England players because they get the TV rights money first.

Other leagues are not so happy about this news especial Spain Primera Division. President of LFP (National Professional Football League) Javier Tebas said that this means that Primera could be facing mass exodus of soccer stars. Negations about new contract for TV right for Primera are going slow and Tebas think that they could lose millions and that it could be fatal for Spain football.

But one people will suffer for sure and those are spectators that watch Premier League over TV. Since it is more likely that TV houses will increase the price of Sport packages and subscriptions, but nobody is asking about that anyway.
