NBA News: Mo Williams traded to the Charlotte Hornets

Basketball, NBA News:

The Charlotte Hornets are trying to move up in the Eastern Conference and now they have additional power to their roster. A few hours ago Mo Williams was traded from the Minnesota Timberwolves to the Hornets in a trade that included him, Troy Daniels, Gary Neal and a second-round draft pick. Charlotte received Williams and Daniels, while Minnesota got Gary Neal and the draft pick.

Mo Williams arrived in Minnesota just this summer, but he quickly adapted to the environment and became one of the team’s most valuable players. He average 12.2 points and 6.4 assists per game, filling up for the injured Ricky Rubio. The most significant moment from his stay with the Timberwolves was the fact that he became the franchise holder for the most points scored in a game with 52 against the Indiana Pacers on 13th January.

Team president of basketball operations and head coach Flip Saunders gave an interview after the trade was announced and stated that the franchise is not done with making moves this season:

“This was a difficult decision because of what Mo brought to our team and the impact that he had on our young guys. As a coach, you wanted to keep him because of his professionalism and understanding of what you wanted out of him as a player. He scored 52 points against Indiana and did everything we asked him to do. On the other side, we knew we were moving in a different direction with our youth so we felt it was in our best interest to make the deal. We thank Mo and Troy for their contributions and wish them the best of luck in Charlotte. In moving Mo, we felt it was important to get a proven scorer and three-point shooter like Gary. Gary was a solid rotation player with San Antonio or three years and an important contributor in the Spurs’ playoff runs. We also get a second round pick, which is another future asset for us.”

It is expected that Williams will be a solid addition for the Hornets, as he brings a lot of experience and skill. Charlotte is currently in 7th place in the East and they hope that they can retain that position until the end of the season.
