Barclays Premier League: Harry Redknapp resigns as QPR manager

EPL, English Premier League News:

Although Tuesdays are always slow news days in the absence of European football, the news of the resignation by the former Tottenham boss at Loftus road proved to be the melting point of the day.

While he was celebrating with his QPR team 8 months ago when a Bobby Zamora goal in extra time led QPR back in the Premier League, the manager had to cut a sorry figure in-front of the English media when QPR announced his resignation from the managerial post.

Having managed 7 teams during his 3 decade long career of management, Harry was the one of the longest serving manager in the Premier League after the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson.

Having taken the reigns of Queens Park Rangers in the winter of 2012/13 season after the sacking of manager Mark Hughes, Harry led QPR to the relegation in the 2012-13 season as the Loftus Road residents collected just 25 points from all 38 games.

However, just after one year in the Championship and qualifying for the Play-offs for a position in the Premier League, QPR managed to get back in Premier League football at the end of 2012-13 season courtesy to their dramatic win against Derby County in May last year.

But as they history, it seems that the past has come back to haunt the Englishman as like his predecessor who left the club lingering in relegation, the demise of Harry Redknapp from the managerial post has come at similar times for the club.

Looking for an excuse for his resignation, the former Tottenham manager labelled his knee problems to make this decision while still claiming, as before, that he still had the full backing of the Malaysian ownership.

Turning our attention back to QPR and looking at their position as they’re lingering at the 19th place just 2 points off rock bottom, owner Tony Fernandes will have to look a popular figure to re-energize the bid of QPR for survival.
