NBA Rumors: Houston Rockets and Los Angeles Lakers after Goran Dragic

Basketball, NBA News:

The NBA Trade deadline is on 19th February and teams around the league are still working very hard to find the deals that suit them best. The latest rumor is that both the Los Angeles Lakers and Houston Rockets are after the Phoenix Suns point-guard Goran Dragic. It’s a bit hard to believe, as the Suns haven’t made any strides to deal the Slovenian guard. However, several sources around the NBA have mentioned his name.

“Sources said that the Rockets, who let Dragic go in free agency in the summer of 2012 but have him high on their list of free-agent targets this coming summer, are prominent among the teams hoping to engage the Suns in serious discussions about Dragic before the league’s annual trade buzzer next week. The Los Angeles Lakers, who have also coveted Dragic for some time, are likewise presumed to be intent on testing the Suns’ resolve when it comes to their Slovenian point guard, since sources say L.A. plans to chase Dragic with an expected max four-year contract offer this summer valued at an estimated $80 million.”

Goran Dragic will be a free-agent this summer and it will be pretty hard for Phoenix to keep him on their roster, as a lot of teams will be after him. It’s reported that the Houston Rockets and Los Angeles Lakers will try to trade for him and then sign him in the offseason. Dragic is averaging 16.2 points and 4.1 assists this season and will definitely be an upgrade over Patrick Beverley or Jeremy Lin. Furthermore, in a recent interview Dragic hinted that he is willing to play for virtually every team in the NBA – “Every team in the NBA is an option to me, because it is a privilege to play for any team in the NBA, when the time comes I’m going to sit down with my family and my agent and try to make the best decision for myself.”

Nevertheless, the Rockets are clearly the favorites to sign him between them and the Lakers, as Houston is already a contender while the Lakers are almost nothing. The only thing that Los Angeles has more to offer to Dragic is money and sometimes this is enough.
