It’s finally over – the Phoenix Suns have made a decision and decided to send Goran Dragic to the Miami Heat. It has been reported that the Heat shipped Danny Granger, Norris Cole, Shawne Williams, Jordan Hamilton and two first-round picks in exchange for the Dragic brothers. The move isn’t a big surprise nevertheless it was quite interesting where exactly Goran would land. He made it clear that he won’t resign with the Phoenix Suns in the offseason and their front office decided that it would be better to get something in return, rather than lose him for nothing in the summer.
This move would definitely be very positive for the Heat, as Dragic will be a great upgrade over Mario Chalmers and Norris Cole. This trade would help them solidify their position in the Eastern Conference, as Goran is a very talented player that has proved he can run a team. The Slovenian guard is at his best when he is the main facilitator – a role which he is expected to fill in his news team. It would be very interesting to see whether the Heat would be able to resign him in the summer or he will be just a short term addition. Either way, the trade is still a very positive thing for them, as he will surely help them to maintain their position in the East.
For the Suns, the deal may not be that good. They lost one of their best players and it could be crucial, as they are attempting to hold on to their eighth place in the Western Conference standings. Furthermore, Isaiah Thomas was also traded, as the Suns sent him and Marcus Thornton to the Boston Celtics. However, from another trade the Suns received guard Brandon Knight from the Milwauckee Bucks in a three-team deal. The other details from the deal are – the Bucks get Michael Carter-Williams from the Philadelphia 76ers and Tyler Ennis/Miles Plumlee from Phoenix.
All these trades are quite interesting and could really change the whole landscape of the NBA. It looks like the Phoenix Suns are the biggest losers, as they lose Goran Dragic, Isaiah Thomas and Miles Plumlee, without getting so much quality in return. Yes, they receive Brandon Knight, Norris Cole and Danny Granger, however it would be really hard to imagine how these players are going to replace Dragic and Thomas. The Miami Heat and the Milwaukee Bucks look like the biggest winners, as they get very good players that will surely help them in their playoff push.
