Last week we have been surprise with decision of Yaya Toure not to extend his contract with Manchester City. Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini knows that big decision about his squad for the next season would have their success (or fail) in UEFA Champions League.
Pellegrini thinks that if Manchester City failed to have a positive success in UEFA Champions League then there is a big chance that Yaya Toure and one of key players Argentina attacker Sergio Aguero might leave the club.
This season Pellegrini team is, well we could say City is doing OK. In Premiership they are now on second place with 5 points behind leader Chelsea and 7 points in front third Arsenal. In UEFA Champions League they were in Group E with Bayern Munich, Roma and CSKA Moscow. After 6 matches they took second place with 2 wins, 2 draws and 2 losses. In knockout phase they will face Barcelona and probably this two games might decide a lot for Manchester City future. Interesting thing I that these two clubs meet last year in knockout phase of UEFA Champions League. Last year Barcelona kick out City with 4-1 (2-0; 2-1) on total.
Pellegrini already won two Premiership title in last three season, but he knows that he is missing some Europa titles. Pellegrini said that it is important to grow in both competition (Champions League and Premiership) but they don’t have obsession on wining Champions League.
This season City might end without any titles, they get kicked out from FA Cup and in Premiership and Champions League they are not favorites to win the title. Pellegrini said that they don’t feel a pressure because of that. He thinks that it is most important for team to always go one step further than in last season. Pellegrini thinks that they got a chance to win Champions league this season, he said that they already beat Bayern Munich this season so why couldn’t they do the same to Barcelona? The only thing that is important is that they don’t do the same mistakes as they did last year against Barcelona.
