Bundesliga: Marco Reus signs a contract extension with Borussia Dortmund

Bundesliga News:

After the recent result against SC Freiburg which escalated Borussia Dortmund above the relegation battle, Borussia Dortmund fans would have thought that the week couldn’t go much better.

However, with the news of contract extension coming out from their camp on Tuesday, the 2011 Bundesliga Champions have hit the nail right on the head.

In recent years whenever Borussia produced a prized asset, it was lured away by the likes of Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.

Thus, taking into heed the examples of Mario Gotze and Robert Levandowski, many thought that the history would repeat itself in the case of German.

Suffering from relegation domestically but going strong in Europe, this season has been a roller coaster ride for the German giants. Sitting at 16th in the Bundesliga table just 1 point off the relegation spot, Dortmund failed to strengthen their ranks in January.

And looking at their starting lineup which includes the likes of World class players i.e. Mats Hummels and Marco Reus, their fans were happy with the policy of utilizing the best out of their own ranks.

Talking about Reus and although the German wasn’t in the 15 getting the World Cup in Brazil, teams like Real Madrid and Manchester United were still looking for his pursuit.

Although Manchester United cooled their interest after the latest injury to Reus, Real Madrid were preparing a sizeable deal to lure the German in summer.

However, courtesy to the latest contract extension which will keep the German at the helm since 2019, it will take a mega money offer for Real Madrid to lure the German.

And keeping in mind the recent FFP regulations which has kept sides like Chelsea and Paris Saint Germain in lurch, it is highly unlikely that the LOS BLANCOS would still remain in the pursuit of Reus.
