NBA News: Chris Bosh will miss the remainder of the season - can the Heat remain competitive?

Basketball, NBA News:

It was just too good to be true – Goran Dragic was acquired by the Miami Heat and the team’s season suddenly looked a lot brighter. However, the good vibes surrounding the Heat were cut short by the news that Chris Bosh, one of their best players, will miss the remainder of the season, due to blood clots revealed in his lungs. Just yesterday, people were talking how Miami can even be considered as title contenders, because of the Dragic signing, but now everyone is again thinking whether Erik Spoelstra and his men will be able to make the playoffs.

It’s just devastating to see one of the most elite players of the NBA go down like this, especially in such a critical moment. Nevertheless, we should be thankful that the problem was diagnosed early and would be treated immediately, because if tests weren’t made, the blood clots could have killed the Heat’s star. Even though Bosh not playing will be a great loss for Miami, we shouldn’t forget that health is more important than basketball.

His health will be restored,” Spoelstra stated regarding Bosh’s condition. “That’s the most important thing. That’s bigger than basketball.”

It was expected that Bosh, Wade and Dragic would be able to form the new big three in Miami and make some noise in the playoffs, but this surely won’t be happening this year. The Heat had chances to maybe upset one of the top teams in the East in the playoffs, but unfortunately not anymore. With Bosh , Wade, Whiteside and Dragic on the floor, they owned a pretty good core of players that would be able to battle almost anyone in the Eastern Conference playoffs. However, in the current situation without Bosh, it’s a bit hard to see the Heat finishing higher than an eighth seed and after that defeating the Atlanta Hawks in a seven-game series.

The Miami Heat season is over, but that certainly isn’t the most important thing at the moment. The most important thing is for Bosh to be healthy again. Whether there is a timetable for his return, coach Erik Spoelstra said it best – “We’re not even thinking about that right now, the most important thing is he’ll be healthy again. We’ll get a game plan as we continue to get more information.”
