The news that a lot of Arsenal fans have waited for has finally arrived – Porto has announced that they are prepared to part way with their Colombian star, Jackson Martinez. The news has been announced by the Portuguese club president, Pinto da Costa, as he revealed that the team has agreed with Martinez to let him go in the summer transfer window.
“Jackson [Martinez] almost left last summer but we agreed he’d stay one more year,” Da Costa stated. “If somebody pays [his value] he will go.”
The latest rumors are that Arsenal are ready to pay the value and sign Martinez. It has been reported that the Gunners are planning to offer £29.5 million for the attacker in the summer transfer window. It will be huge success for the club from England if they find a way to sign him, as the 28-year-old player has been in magnificent form for Porto this season, scoring 21 times in 27 appearances.
All this talent that Martinez possesses means that next season he will surely end up playing in either the Barclay’s Premier League or in the Primera Division. However, as we have mentioned, it’s more likely that he will be heading to England, as Arsenal are ready to make the huge bid for him.
“He could play in the Premier League, Jackson Martinez, because he has the body to make the difference,” Arsene Wenger, Arsenal head-coach said. “He uses in a very intelligent way his body, very short back-lift and is a very good finisher.”
Furthermore, Martinez has also stated numerous times that he wishes to be traded and some of his latest comments let us see it even more – “In the summer I’ll leave Porto for a new team. Players develop well in Portugal, and I thank the club for making me the player I am today. However, it’s time for a new adventure, to grow from a professional point of view.”
It will be very interesting to see whether Arsenal could really make things happen and therefore sign the striker. Martinez will be the perfect fit in Wenger’s tactics, because of his elite goal-scoring abilities. Arsenal has the players with vision, Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez, but still lacks one attacker that can capitalize on created chances. Martinez could be that player, but the summer is still far away, so we can speculate whether the Gunners will be able to sign him.
