Manchester City ownership to buy French club AS Saint Etienne

French Ligue 1 News:

Although Manchester City aren’t performing according to the expectations this season, there is nobody stopping their ownership. Although the talks with the French club are at an early stage with nothing concrete, this type of deal might open the doors of success for the French club in future.

Currently sitting 4th in the French Ligue 1 table just 1 point ahead of the powerhouse FC Monaco, the Saint Etienne based side has an illustrious history to offer. Founded in 1919 and currently captained by Loic Perrin, the news of an ownership headed by Sheikh Mansour would be a welcoming news for the League 1’s most successful side.

Although Paris Saint Germain and Lyon currently strive for the French Ligue 1 title, AS Saint Etienne has been the most successful club in French football history. Having won 10 French Ligue 1 titles and 6 COUPE DE FRANCE cup titles, Etienne has won more Ligue 1 titles than any other team in the history of French football.

Although they are currently going through a torrid spell as both PSG and Lyon have eclipsed the League 1 football, this season has been a welcome sign for the 10 time League Champions. In terms of producing players of world class quality, Superstars like Michel Platini, Laurent Blanc – the current manager of PSG – and Jacques Santini have gone through its ranks in the past.

Although these type of discussions are normally confidential, the French club Co-president has announced this in public.

According to Bernanard Caiazzo, the Co-President of Saint Etienne, the Sporting director of the club has met with Manchester City officials many times in order to bridge the gap to streamline their proposed move for the takeover of the French club.

‘’It looks all very serious, City have been impressed with our talent of producing World class players of Champions League Standard. These people are willing to work in depth’’ he told to The Standard.

However, with Manchester City ownership currently having their stakes in 4 clubs world-wide, it would be worth a wait that whether they go one better by acquiring the French club.
