Top 5 expensive transfers of January transfer window

Soccer News:

From Wilfried Bony to Juan Cuadrado, Premier League clubs paid multi million pounds for signings in the January transfer window. While some of those players were deemed as proven talent by the pundits, most of them are yet to make a mark on the global level.

Here are top 5 expensive signings that has processed in the January transfer window: –

1. Wilfried Bony

Although the Ivorian is yet to make his first appearance for his new club, his transfer to the reigning Premier League Champions was the melting point of January transfer window. Having scored 8 goals for his former side Swansea, Manchester City wrapped up their deal for the Ivorian quickly to fend off interest from other Premier League clubs.

Having paid 28-million-pounds to Swansea to acquire the services of their front-man, Wilfried Bony has become an all-time expensive transfer of the Welsh club.

2. Juan Cuadrado

Although Chelsea waited till the last hour of the transfer deadline day to announce that they have struck a deal with Fiorentina, their fans believed that the wait was worth it. Having scored 6 goals for the Italian side Fiorentina this season, Cuadrado might push Chelsea in their bid to strengthen the grip at the pinnacle of Premier League.

3. Andre Schurrle

Having sold Juan Mata to Manchester United for 29 million pounds and David Luiz to Paris Saint Germain for 50 million, Jose Mourinho again struck gold in his effort to wave off one of the bench warmers of his squad.

Looking at his brief Chelsea career to date, his goal against the reigning Premier League Champions at the Etihad in September last year might prove to be a deciding factor for Chelsea in the long run.

However, looking at his next destination, the German won’t be sad as he is currently going to a side that has defeated Bayern Munich 4-1 at home soil. FC Wolfsburg is his current destination and the Bundesliga side paid Chelsea 22million pounds for the German.

4. Enzo Perez

Although not a household name for fans around the Premier League, Perez was linked with Manchester United in the summer transfer window in a move that failed to materialize.

Currently playing for the Spanish side Valencia, the Spanish powerhouse paid approximately 20million pounds for his services to the Portuguese club FC Benefica.

Perez hasn’t had an ideal start to his career at the Spanish soil as he has failed to find the back of the net in his first 5 appearances for the club.

5. Gabriel Paulista

Gone are the times when Arsene Wenger looked always to strike bargains, changing times and trends around the world of football has forced the Frenchman to revise his tactics in the Premier League and Paulista has been a latest addition in the array of players whom Wenger signed for a hefty price tag.

Although that price tag isn’t outrageous, Paulista is still a raw prospect which means he might not make it to the starting 11 straight away. Arsenal paid nearly 15 million pounds for his services.
