Coming into this encounter, the Aussies were unbeaten in 4 matches throughout the series. And this match against the English did no harm to it either. Both these sides qualified for the final of the series on the expense of Team India who didn’t won a single match throughout the tour. Eoin Morgan and co were in high spirits after dismantling India in both their matches, but they were simply no match for the mighty Australia. So as it stands, it was Australia who won the match by 112 runs and claimed the title of the Tri Series.
Match Report:
After winning the toss, Eoin Morgan won the toss and decided to field first at the WACA, Perth. And after first 20 overs, this decision turned out to be perfect for England. Australia lost their first 4 wickets for just 60 runs, and were in deep trouble when Mitchell Marsh and Glenn Maxwell managed a sensible partnership. Especially Maxwell who looked in brilliant touch for the first time this series and scored 95 runs.
Both these batters managed 141 runs for the fifth wicket partnership, taking Australia’s score to 201 runs in the 41st over. And after them, a little but aggressive cameo by Faulkner helped the Aussies to put up a total of 278 runs on the board after 50 overs. The right handed Batsman scored 50 runs out of just 24 balls. So England had a tough task ahead in the run chase for them.
However, once again the English batting lineup failed to deliver against a strong bowling attack of the Aussies. Not a single batsman managed to give to good fight against the likes of Mitchell Johnson and co. After delivering with the bat, Glenn Maxwell gave a man of the match performance with the ball as well as he took 4 wickets for his side. Thanks to his heroics that the whole England side bundled over for just 166 runs, simply no match for the Aussies.
