Barclays Premier League: How will Liverpool lineup against Everton?

English Premier League Match Preview:

Even though Daniel Sturridge returned last weekend for Liverpool and got himself a goal, the fitness of the striker is still keeping Brendan Rodgers in doubt about his selection in the starting 11. While on one hand Liverpool is unsure about the inclusion of Daniel Sturridge from the start, the injury suffered by Lazar Markovic against Bolton also puts the Serbian’s appearance in the match in doubt.

Here is how we think that Liverpool might lineup against Everton at the weekend: –

Simon Mignolet (GK)

Although the goal-keeper suffered lack of form in the early part of this season, his current form has been keeping himself afloat of the criticism. With 3 cleansheets in last 6 games for the club, it will take an un-foreseeable catastrophe for Brendan Rodgers to replace the Belgian.

Emre Can (RCB)

Although Liverpool signed him to replace Steven Gerrard in the long run – which he might do in future – currently Emre Can is the best center back that Liverpool have in their ranks. With the dip in form of Dejan Lovren which forced Liverpool to suffer, Can has become an integral part of Brendan Rodgers’ plans this season.

Martin Skrtel (CB)

While some people questioned his place in the team with the arrival of center backs in the last 2 windows, the Slovakian has managed to keep his place in the starting 11 intact. Surrounded by players like Sakho and Emre Can both of whom are in their early 20’s, the 30 year old Slovakian adds experience to the Liverpool back-line.

Mamadou Sakho (LCB)

When they say that the world is round, Mamadou Sakho is a perfect example for that. Having stormed out of Anfield on the back of his exclusion from the 1st Merseyside Derby in September, the French can earn a Legendary status if he performs according to the expectations on Saturday. Although Bolton enshrined the weaknesses of Liverpool defenders in mid-week, it was Sakho who was the standout performer from the back 3 along with Emre Can.

Lucas Leiva (CM)

Even though Steven Gerrard might be playing the last Merseyside derby of his career, it will be Lucas Leiva, not Steven Gerrard, who will start the proceedings in Liverpool midfield. After earning his position back in the team in the wake of that rueful afternoon at Old Trafford, the Brazilian has grabbed the opportunity with both hands to prolong his Liverpool career.

Jordan Henderson (CM)

Although the Englishman wasn’t among the scorers against Bolton on Wednesday, it was his substitution in that turned the match around for the Reds. A captain in making for Liverpool, Henderson might prove the key for Liverpool to unlock the strangle of Everton midfield on Saturday.

Lazar Markovic (RM)

While the Serbian injured himself in that roller-coaster match against Bolton in mid-week, Markovic is expected to retain his position in the starting 11 for the Reds on Saturday.

Adam Lallana (RW)

Courtesy to the rise of Lazar Markovic and Philippe Coutinho this season, Adam Lallana has been reduced largely to the bench of late. Being signed from Southampton for 25million pounds, the Englishman can make his 2nd start for Liverpool in a week against Everton.

Alberto Moreno (LM)

Recognized in the Premier League due to his goal against Tottenham that came last August, the Spaniard has been one of the beneficiaries of the current formation at Liverpool. With his natural ability to attack, Brendan Rodgers has utilized the full back on the left wing role of late.

Philippe Coutinho (LW)

In his latest interview given to the Spanish media, Brazilian starlet Neymar has labeled Coutinho as capable of becoming the best player in the Premier League. And looking at the wonder-strike with which Coutinho made Bolton sink, it is difficult to argue with the Barcelona man on his latest praise of the Brazilian.

Raheem Sterling (Striker)

While Daniel Sturridge has returned from injury and will be available for selection, it would be Sterling, not Sturridge, might start the proceedings for Liverpool on Saturday.

In his pre-match interview given to the media, Brendan Rodgers has expressed doubt over starting Daniel Sturridge in the derby. And looking at the current form of the Liverpool wonder-kid Sterling, Liverpool fans won’t feel that bad if Sterling starts up-front.
