Atletico Madrid vs Real Madrid: 4 players who played for both

LA LIGA News:

In this 2nd Madrid derby of 2015 while Real Madrid have a handful of players being out of the squad, there will be at-least 1 player in Atletico Madrid starting 11 that has played for the other half of Madrid not so long ago.

While there is a large list of players that has jumped ship from Atletico to Real Madrid with the latter being the European giants for so many season, some have also gone against the wind when they joined Atletico Madrid in their career.

Here are 4 players that played for both: –

Bernard Schuster

Although there are few players around the globe that share the Legend title wherever they go, Bernard Schuster shares an impeccable relationship with both Madrid clubs to date. Having played with the great Real Madrid side of the later 90’s that won 2 LA LIGA titles, Bernard then departed to Vicente Calderon make his mark for Atletico Madrid.

2 decades after he left his mark on the Spanish side, Schuster came back to manage the European giants Real Madrid. However, like his playing spell at the Santiago Bernabeau, his managerial career was short lived as the German departed after just 1 season.

Jose Antonio Reyes

Although Reyes played for both Madrid sides in 13 year playing career till date, the Spaniard earned global acknowledgement playing for Arsenal in the Premier League. Having been a part of the Arsenal squad that earned the INVINCIBLE tag in the early 2000’s, it was his form at the Highbury that earned him a call from Real Madrid, albeit on loan.

After spending just 1 season at Santiago Bernabeau on loan, Reyes joined city rivals Atletico on a permanent basis in 2007. But he was unable to replicate the form of Arsenal and left Atletico Madrid with just 6 goals in over 100 appearances for the club.

Luis Aragones

Although the Spaniard never made it to the Senior team of Real Madrid, he played his part in Real Madrid Castilla in the early stages of 1960’s. Having been a part of Santiago Bernabeau for 2 years, Aragones never impressed the Real Madrid officials enough to earn a senior call.

However, unlike the aforementioned players, Aragones was a huge success for Atletico Madrid during his 1 decade long spell at Vicente Calderon.

From 1964-74 in a period during which he played 372 times for Atletico, Aragones scored a staggering 172 goals for the Spanish side winning 1 LA LIGA and 1 Inter-Continental Cup during the process

Juanfran

At 30 years of age and currently playing for the reigning Atletico Madrid, Juanfran started his career at Real Madrid. However, due to the rise of Sergio Ramos in the full back role, his opportunities at the Bernabeau were limited due to which he ultimately joined Atletico Madrid.

However, Juanfran joined Osasuna and took the longer route before setting his foot back at the Madrid soil. He combined his force with Atletico Madrid in 2011 when the LA LIGA outfit was under the tutelage of Juanfran.

Being all set to make his 131st appearance for Atletico when it will meet Real Madrid on Saturday, Juanfran has won 1 LA LIGA and 1 Europa League medal to his name playing for the reigning Spanish Champions.
