Barcelona beat Villarreal in semifinals of Spain Copa del Ray, it was two times 3-1 for Barcelona and they will fight with Athletic Bilbao for the title. But on that game one bad thing happened that might play a key role in next Barcelona games.
It was 40’ when Sergio Busquets left lying on the pitch after one bad foul, soon after that Enrique sent France defender Jeremy Mathieu to substitute Busquets. In the next 50 minutes we saw Enrique possible solutions for Busquets place. It isn’t a secret that Enrique cannot make a starting XI without Sergio Busquets, but after injury it might happened that Busquets will miss the most important game this season for Barcelona El Classic that is on schedule to play on 22 March. And before El Clasico only 4 days earlier they have return match of UEFA Champions League against Manchester City.
Enrique got only two players that could play on Busquets place, one is Javier Mascherano and other is Ivan Rakitic. Both of these players have their cons and pros for playing on Busquets positions. If Enrique chose to have Mascherano as defensive midfielder then he will have a gap in defense. On place of second central defender with Pique we could see young Marc Bartra or Jeremy Mathieu who’s is not the best on that place. It’s more likely that Enrique will go with Ivan Rakitic as team defensive midfielder. Rakitic played that place in Croatian national team, but his performances on that place were poor and that is what worries Barcelona fans. If Rakitic start playing as defensive midfielder that would mean that two midfielders in front of him would be Iniesta and Xavi.
Enrique already tried both versions in the game against Villarreal but unfortunately for all Barcelona fans, both versions disappointed. After Villarreal game Enrique said that he tried both Mascherano and Rakitic on Busquets positions, but for him (Enrique) Busquets irreplaceable player and one of the kind.
