European Handball Federation or EHF has rescheduled the men’s qualifications game between Russia and Ukraine for EHF European Men’s Championship in Poland 2016. Russia and Ukraine are in Group 5 and on 28 April they supposed to play their round 2 game. But due to political situation and because of security reasons EHF moved the match close to their second game that supposed to play 10th or 11th June this year. EHF publish a statement that they put great value on protection of the qualification games and it’s participants but they also want to protect the participants against all political influence. With this in mind EHF don’t want that either party use this sport event in terms of propaganda. In Group 5 with Russia and Ukraine are Hungary and Portugal. After 2 incomplete rounds both Hungary and Russia are on 100% only Hungary played 2 games while Russia only 1.
After months of speculation finally we got confirmation that legendary Iceland right-wing Olafur Stefansson will be playing for KIF Kolding Kobenhavn in their EHF Velux Champions League round 16 matches against RK Zagreb this Saturday. KIF Kolding Coach Aron Kristjansson said that they are happy that everything worked out with Kolding and Stefansson. Kristjansson said that Stefansson is already training with the team and that he has shown that even with the so many years behind him he can still play on top-level. Kristjansson thinks that Olafur experience is what they need to win in their game on Saturday. During his career Stefansson was mostly playing in Bundesliga for LTV Wuppertal, SC Magdeburg, and Rhein-Neckar Lowen. In his long career Stefansson won 4 EHF Champions League, 2 EHF Cup’s and 4 EHF Championships Trophy (similar to Super Cup in soccer). Will Stefansson help KIF Kolding we will found out in Saturday when they will go against RK Zagreb?
