Atletico Madrid manage to once more beat Real Madrid this year, this is their second win against city rival in this year. Also this is first home for Atletico in Primera division after 1999.
Atletico was better team during whole game and especial motivated in this games was Croatian attacker Mario Mandzukic. Real Madrid was without Pepe, Ramos, Marcelo and recently injured James Rodriguez but they were stronger for return of Cristiano Ronaldo. But Ronaldo didn’t help much for Real since him and Gareth Bale were the two worst players on the field. Maybe one information could tell me how bad was Real Madrid, first goal attempt that was going into the frame Real manage to have in 81’ and it was made by substitution Illaramendi.
Atletico start furious and in 14’ they took the lead. One cross from Juanfran was excellent received by Mario Mandzukic who send pass toward Tiagu who manage to score from the edge of the penalty box. Only four minutes later Siquieiru send a good cross and Saul scored with scissor kick for 2-0. Real Madrid usual had a huge ball possession when played against Atletico but at the end of first half Real only had 52% ball possession and only one goal attempt from Karim Benzema and that shot was blocked. In second half Ancelotti leave Khedira in the locker room and on this place he sends Jese and switch from 4-3-3 to 4-4-2, but that didn’t help Real much. Real just couldn’t start making chances while at the Casillas goal it was always dangerous. In 67’ Atletico scored third goal Antoine Griezmann scored after Saul Niguez pass. In 89’ best player in this game Mario Mandzukic finally manage to score, after a good cross from Fernando Torres Mandzukic header scored the fourth goal for Atletico.
With this win Atletico is now only 4 points behind Real Madrid and they give opportunity for Barcelona to go on -1 if they won against Athletic Bilbao on Sunday.
When asked about the game Cristiano Ronaldo replayed that they don’t have any excuses about their bad play and that Real Madrid cannot afford to lose with this goal difference from anyone. At the end Ronaldo said that he still thinks that Real is much better team than Atletico.
In Atletico ranks Mario Mandzukic was played superbly, this was probably his best match for Atletico. Mandzukic showed very intelligent play and was constant threat for Real defense. There was a lot of talk that Edin Dzeko might join Atletico to help them boost defense, but after this game we don’t know does Atletico even need Dzeko.
