After their recent debacle against the relegation threatened Hull City, Manchester City are now 7 points of the top spot. While they were looking to defeat Chelsea to narrow the gap to just 1 point, this recent slip means that the future of Manchester City is out of their own hands.
However, gripping the gravity of the situation, their talisman Yaya Toure has come out and underlined the importance of winning the remaining matches.
Although Toure won the 1st African Cup of Nations of his career, he has been ruled out of the midweek’s fixture. He has been absent from the club duties since scoring on the New Year’s Eve against Sunderland.
In his absence and much to the bemusement of the Ivorian, City has fallen way back Chelsea and the task that lies ahead them seems unsurmountable. In the absence of the Ivorian, Manchester City has not won a single Premier League game since the turn of year.
In 5 Premier League games that the reigning Premier League Champions have played so far in 2015, they have managed to win just 1, with 3 draws and 1 defeat coming in the process.
And looking at their upcoming fixture list which includes Liverpool away and high flying Spurs at home, the future of the manager Manuel Pellegrini looks in serious doubt.
However, speaking after the final of African Cup of Nations, Toure claimed that they can still win the Premier League title.
”With my confidence I know football is not about one game or two games, especially in the Premier League, We have 38 games and if we want to achieve it (retaining the title) we have to win all the games’’ he said
‘’I know it is difficult but now I have to go back and do my duty again.’ Said the 31 year old who is returning to Manchester this week”.
However, with Premier League resuming its matches in the mid-week, Toure is expected to take part in next weekend’s game against Newcastle at home.
