NBA News: Orlando Magic fire head-coach Jacque Vaughn

Basketball, NBA News:

The Orlando Magic’s season isn’t going very well, as they are sitting almost at the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings at 15-37. They are currently in the midst of a 10-game losing streak and have been awful season long. This led to the firing of Orlando’s head-coach, Jacque Vaughn who was with the team in the last three years. His record is far from spectacular (58-158) and it’s not really a surprise that he was relieved from his duties. The decision was announced earlier today:

“The Orlando Magic have relieved Jacque Vaughn from his head coaching duties, General Manager Rob Hennigan announced today. In addition, James Borrego has been named interim head coach. ‘Jacque (Vaughn) has been a trusted friend and colleague,’ said Hennigan. ‘We thank him immensely for his contributions and sacrifices in bringing our team to this point, and we greatly appreciate his unwavering commitment to our organization. We have tremendous respect for Jacque and certainly wish him the best as he embarks on the next phase of his career.’ “

The statement of Jacque Vaughn after the firing was filled with dignity and respect towards the organization that gave him the chance to be a head-coach:

“I would like to thank Mr. DeVos and Family for the opportunity of representing the Orlando Magic as Head Coach. I am a stronger and wiser man and coach because of the opportunity. I look forward to seeing this group continue to grow. God bless, good luck. Jacque Vaughn. Proverbs 3:5-6.”

Vaughn’s previous job was an assistant coach under Gregg Popovich, but evidently he hasn’t learned a lot from him. Vaughn took the job in Orlando in 2012, knowing that he will be on a rebuilding team that is expected to progress through the years. However, the Magic hasn’t been showing any signs of improvement in the last three years and this is the main reason Vaughn isn’t coaching the team anymore. Nevertheless, t’s hard to believe that Orlando will improve, even if the management finds a way to bring a better coach this season. The Magic should hope they can get a high lottery-pick in the 2015 Draft, because if they don’t – nothing better awaits them next season.
