Men's EHF Cup Final tournament once more will be played in Berlin

Handball News:

EHF has confirmed that once more finals of Men’s EHF Cup will be held in German capital Berlin and once more home club Fuchse Berlin will host two-day event on 16 and 17 May 2015. Contract was signed over the past weekend in Qatar where IFH Men’s World Handball Championship was playing. Men’s EHF Cup Finals is two-day event that features four top teams in Men’s EHF Cup competition. On first day we will see semifinals games and on second day final game will be played.

When asked about this decision Michael Widerer, EHF Secretary General, said that handball is more than just sport performance and that they (EHF) are pleased to see one big event such as EHF Cup is returning to Berlin. They are proud that they will have opportunity to show once more top class handball in German capital. Peter Vargo, Managing Director of EHF Marketing, said that they were happy with the organisation of EHF Cup from last year and that they are very confident that Berlin will once more organize highly attractive sporting and entertainment event. Managing Director of Fuchse Berlin Bob Hanning said that they are extremely proud that EHF trusts them one more time and they are looking forward to offer another great event.

Men’s EHF Cup was made after merging EHF Cup and Cup Winners Cup and it started in season 2012/2013. It is mostly known as second tier of European handball behind EHF Champions League. EHF Cup format is qualification phase, after which we got 4 groups with 4 clubs. Best two clubs from each group go in quarter-finals and it all end with final tournament. First hosts of EHF Cup were Nantes (France) and Rhein-Neckar Lowen (Bundesliga) won the EHF Cup.  Last year in Berlin SC Szeged (Hungary) manage to beat Montpellier (France) with 29-28.
