NBA News: Stephen Curry wins the 2014/15 MVP Award!

Basketball, NBA News:

The wildest MVP race in years is finally over, and the winner from it is the Golden State Warriors point guard – Stephen Curry. Even though there were five legitimate candidates for the award, it’s not surprising that Curry is the one that will lift it. He was able to lead the Warriors to their best season in franchise history, as they became the number one team in the entire NBA for the 2014-15 season.

The finals results from the voting for the KIA Most Valuable Player Award showed that Curry received one hundred first place votes, which is four times more than second placed James Harden. Even though the difference is huge, it can’t be said that the race wasn’t tight. Harden deserved to win the award as much as Curry, as he was able almost single-handedly to carry the Rockets throughout the regular season.

Stephen Curry will be just the second Warriors player ever to win an NBA MVP award – the previous one is Wilt Chamberlain when he was a member of the Philadelphia Warriors in 1959-60 season. The Golden State point guard was also able to break his own record for most three-pointers made in a regular season – 286. Furthermore, Curry averaged 23.8 points and 7.7 assists per game.

After it was announced that Curry won the award, his colleague and MVP candidate, LeBron James praised him:

“I think it’s well deserved. I mean you see, first of all, the team success, that’s the first thing that pops out.” James stated. “He’s the catalyst of that whole ship and I think he’s had an unbelievable season.”

It’s hard to argue, as Curry has indeed been truly great. He’s been the engine that has kept the Warriors going throughout the regular season. Moreover, he’s also been playing quite good and the postseason, so it won’t be a surprise if Golden State find a way to reach the Finals.
