NBA News: The Brooklyn Nets are ready to offer a contract extension to Brook Lopez

Basketball, NBA News:

The season for the Brooklyn Nets is officially over after they got eliminated by the Atlanta Hawks in the first round of the NBA playoffs. Even though the Nets showed signs of life during the postseason, it can’t be denied that the entire campaign was a big disappointment for them. They couldn’t find their identity and barely reached the eighth playoff seed in the weak Eastern Conference.

Their main challenge now is to figure out what to do for the next season – should they keep their core players, or should they start a rebuilding process. However, the only report that has come from Brooklyn is that the management of the team is thinking about re-signing Brook Lopez and Thaddeus Young.

“The expectation is that the Nets want to re-sign both Lopez and Thaddeus Young, according to sources, and that could happen after both opt out of the final year of their contracts and agree to multi-year deals to stay in Brooklyn,”

Lopez had a very solid season if we don’t count the injuries that he suffered. It can’t be denied that the big man deserves a lot of money, as he is loaded with talent, especially on the offensive end. However, Lopez has a history of injuries, and it will be a bit risky move by Brooklyn if they are to re-sign him.

In my opinion, the Nets should think a bit more about re-signing Brook Lopez, because of his history of injuries. The big man currently can choose to opt in at a $16.7 million for the upcoming season or he can consider opting out of the final year of his contract. If the Nets are wise, they won’t re-sign Lopez, or if they do, they shouldn’t give him too much money.
