After last year 2nd place Liverpool fans had a high expectation from their club in this season. In the summer transfer window Liverpool boos Brendan Rodgers loss only Luis Suarez (Barcelona, 81 million euros) from key players. Italian “bad boy” Mario Balotelli arrived as his replacement; Rodgers bought him from AC Milan for 20 million euros. With Balotelli new players that arrived on Anfield were Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert and Dejan Lovren both from Southampton, Lazar Markovic from Benfica, Alberto Moreno Sevilla, Divock Origi Lille and Emre Can from Bayern Leverkusen. Rodgers spent around 150 million euros on 8 new players.
Last season over 100 goals, this season not even 50 (so far)
Off course that hopes of Liverpool fans were high with the new players and they were hoping that finally after almost 26 years (1989/1990) they could win Premiership title. But as soon as season start it was clear that Liverpool team cannot match their fans expectation. Now after 35 rounds Liverpool is holding 5th place, place that leads into Europa League. What is more strange is that from team that scored over 100 goals in last season, Liverpool has become a team that scored only 49 goals this season with the same line up except Luis Suarez. And to be honest their current Premiership place and form is probably the best in entire season.
Main question is Brendan Rodgers staying?
Liverpool officials announce that they will have a major locker clean-up after this season; according to some England media 9 players will leave Liverpool in summer transfer window. One of players that will definitely leave Liverpool is possible Luis Suarez replacement Mario Balotelli. , who scored only 4 goals from 28 appearances this season. Rickie Lamberts also didn’t fulfill his high expectation he scored 3 goals from 33 appearances, but at the end he didn’t cost 20 million euros. Legendary Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard is also playing his last games for Liverpool; according to some sources he will continue his career in MSL. Kolo Toureu and Glen Johnson contract expire this summer but there is little chance that they will stay on Anfield. But probably one of main question for all Liverpool fans will be is Brendan Rodgers staying? Most of fans point the finger toward him as the main reason for this fail season and during season he was several times getting to losing his job.
