Williams Triumphant After More Than 2 ½ Hours

Venus Williams finally won over Hungarian qualifier Greta Arn after an exhausting two hours and 43 minutes on the red clay. The win puts Williams in the quarterfinals to meet another Hungarian, Agnes Szavay.

Arn who is 160th in the rankings tried hard to defeat Williams but came up short when Williams blasted her with her powerful serves and saved 9-of-12 break points.

This match at the Abierto Mexicano TELCEL tournament with 6-3, 6-7 (3-7), 6-4 victory over Arn, was Williams' second test of endurance after surviving her first match against Spaniard Nuria Llagostera which took nearly two and a half hours.The seven-time Grand Slam champion is the only seeded player left on her side of the draw after No. 3 Carla Suarez-Navarro and No. 5 Gisela Dulko failed to go through the second round.

Along with Williams, No. 2 Flavia Pennetta and No. 4 Iveta Benesova are the only seeded players left in the tournament after defeating Pauline Parmentier and Klara Zakopalova, respectively.
