Vick Allowed To Finish Sentence Under Home Confinement

Due to lack of space in the halfway house, NFL star Michael Vick will be allowed to finish his jail time in his Hampton home on or after May 21 in his 23-month sentence on a federal dog fighting conviction.

The Falcons quarterback is now at the federal penitentiary in Leavenworth, Kansas after admitting to conspiracy in a dog fighting ring and agreeing that the enterprise included killing pit bulls and gambling. He will be transferred to a halfway house in Newport News any day now, according to his lawyers.

An electronic monitoring device will always be worn by Vick and he will not be allowed to leave home unless approved by a probation officer.

The 27-year old player is eligible for release in July and could still play in the 2009 football season, but this could be next to impossible because he is currently suspended without pay by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and still needs to face state animal cruelty charges in Surry County.

Charles Barkley Unfazed With Jail Sentence

After pleading guilty to drunk driving charges, Charles Barkley told the Associated Press, "I always knew I'd have to do time, it's not something I'm worried about." This statement was his reaction to the five-day jail sentence, to commence March 21, 2009, for two misdemeanor charges.

Last December 31 the former NBA star was arrested by police after leaving a Scottsdale nightclub. He failed a sobriety test and had a blood-alcohol level of .149 percent which is nearly twice the legal limit of .08 percent in Arizona.

On top of the jail sentence, Barkley is required to pay a fine of more than $2,000, attend an alcohol treatment program and install an ignition interlock device on his vehicles.

He appeared remorseful for his DUI, "I made a mistake and just have to take the beatdown," Barkley said. "It is what it is. It's 100 percent my fault."

Fourth Offer For Elusive Ramirez

A fourth bid was made for the elusive Manny Ramirez by the Los Angeles Dodgers. The one-year contract is worth $25 million and includes a $20 million player option for 2010. According from an anonymous source, the player option was requested by Scott Boras, Ramirez's agent.

Dodgers general manager Ned Colletti, owner Frank McCourt and Boras met in Los Angeles on Wednesday to discuss on the new offer. This was confirmed by Dodgers spokesman Josh Rawitch but didn't elaborate more on the details of the said meeting.

Jacobs Signs Deal With Giants

The 264-pound halfback of the Giants decided to stay and signed a four-year, $25 million contract on Wednesday.
